CHUTESPACE
Opening Thursday 22 October, 2026, 6-8pm
Friday 23 October - Sunday 18 November

Played started with a simple set of rules: a limited colour palette, four fixed plaid patterns, and a stack of silk screens. After a busy year, working within those limits gave Lesley Andersen a chance to pause, reset, and play without needing to control every outcome. The process became a kind of debrief: a way to loosen up, make decisions quickly, and see what could happen when chance was invited into the studio.

For Chutespace, the screen prints moved off the flat surface and onto 3D forms, where the patterns could shift, clash, fold, and collide. That move opened up the work’s central feeling: letting go. Within a safe structure, Played asks what it means to give in to the things we cannot fully manage, while still finding energy and joy in the process. The installation is bold, bright, and deliberately excessive — an explosion of colour that turns control into play.
