Can two people ever truly occupy the same place? While we are always somewhere physically, our presence is layered —existing in both the tangible location of our bodies and the intangible realm of our minds.

This year, studio artists were invited to explore and respond to the theme of place. The exhibited works display a myriad of interpretations and connections to place, and showcase the diversity of creative practices at M16 Artspace.

Join us for a panel discussion about the exhibition and participating artists’ practices, led by Toni Hassan with curators Madeline Cardone and Lani Shea-An.

About the Exhibition

Notions of Place, M16 Studio Artists

M16 Artspace presents its annual Studio Artists' exhibition. This year’s theme, Notions of Place, calls the artists to reflect on ideas or personal connections to place; place as landscape and physical environment, place as home and identity, loss of place and displacement.

The exhibition highlights the diverse practices of M16 studio artists across a range of conceptual approaches and material explorations – painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, video, glass, ceramics, textiles, metal and found objects. The works in the show bring an acute awareness to experiences of place as individuals as well as communities. They meditate on how we exist in the world; how we may see, think and know ours and others' environments, as well as how we connect our sense of place with our sense of being.

Exhibitions run from Friday 1 November - Sunday 24 November 2024
