Join us for a artist panel discussion with the artists of Care Structures 

What: Artists Panel Discussion and Closing Reception

When: Sunday, October 22, 2:00 โ€“ 3:00pm

Where: Gallery 1, M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith

Cost: Free

Select artists from Care Structures will be joined in discussion, facilitated by Deirdre Cannon, Assistant Curator, Australian Art at the National Gallery. Following the discussion, light refreshments will be served and visitors can spend time with the artists, artworks and exhibition in it's closing hours. During the reception, exhibiting artist Nina Walton will be present in the space 'unpainting' her site responsive thread installation.

Board Vacancy at M16 Artspace : Fundraising and O&HS Specialist

M16 Artspace operates on the lands of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people. We honour and pay our respects to its traditional custodians. We acknowledge this land โ€˜always was and always will beโ€™ the country of Australiaโ€™s First Nations People. Sovereignty was never ceded.

About the organization

Founded in 1985, M16 Artspace is an inclusive organisation that supports a thriving arts community of emerging and established artists, writers and curators of any age, background or culture.
Today, M16 Artspace runs 3 gallery spaces, manages 31 artist studios and houses several community arts organisations and โ€˜Chutespaceโ€™ located in the old book return chute.

Through our gallery program we aim to present high-quality exhibitions from both emerging and established artists and curators from Canberra, interstate and overseas. We are supported by the ACT Government and a number of local businesses.


About the Role

Board Members are responsible for providing oversight to the various activities of M16. The Board comprises up to 11 members who meet formally approximately 10 times a year. 

Who we are looking for

M16 Artspace are looking for passionate and committed individuals to join our Board to fill two current vacancies.  M16 is seeking to identify candidates who:

(i)     Have experience in O&HS or fundraising activities or previous board experience;

(ii)    Possess subject matter expertise in at least one of the following areas : fundraising, budget development and tacking, O&HS and information technology;

(iii)   In addition to specific subject matter expertise, have the skills to contribute to decision-making across all areas of the Boardโ€™s scope of responsibility.\;

(iv)  Have an understanding of, and appreciation for, directorsโ€™ duties within the Australian regulatory context;

(v)   Applicants must be based in Canberra or surrounds and be able to attend meetings face to face at M16 Premises in Griffith ACT;

(vi)  Have a genuine interest in and enthusiasm for the Arts; and

(vii) Have personal qualities which include strong personal and professional integrity, the ability to work in an inclusive and collegiate manner.

We welcome and strongly encourage First Nations people, d/Deaf and Disabled people, people of different genders, sexualities and cultural backgrounds to apply.

Terms of Board Members Engagement

Board Members are engaged on a volunteer basis for a period and are expected to commit the necessary time to:

1.   attend monthly board meetings face to face (approx. 10/year);

2.  attend M16 Artspace exhibition openings and other key community engagement events through out the year;

3.   participate in annual planning;

4.   attend the AGM; and

5.  contribute proactively to the good governance, fundraising, staff mentoring and management of M16 Artspace.

M16 Artspace offers an opportunity to develop your governance skills, collaborate with professionals from other sectors, and be part of an engaging and creative community.

About Night and Day 

Penny Mason

Penny Mason's Night and Day explores the delicate balance within materials, observations, desire, and presence, all inspired by Tasmania's landscapes. The exhibition pairs frost-etched watercolors, capturing overnight weather conditions, with works drawing from natural decorative traditions. These compositions, weightless and ever-shifting, mirror the constant evolution of our world through natural and human-driven events.
