Locale is an exhibition of creative encounters with the Australian Bush by three artists of the Canberra region. It represents a dynamic moment in the resurgence of interest by contemporary artists in working with landscape, particularly painting en plein air.

Lynne Flemons, Alison Ford, and Kerry Johns share an awareness of painterly and imaginative interpretations of place. Their work reveals a delight and affinity with the natural landscape, at the same time their individual methods of working vary markedly.

These drawings, paintings and painted objects have been wrought through different experiences and approaches. Each artist has shaped the colour, rhythm, and light of their own well-known locale through different perceptions and practice. Yet their work seen collectively conveys a strong shared sensitivity to place.
