The form of the oyster is a sensual and distinctive one, which is described in this little folding book using free flowing gouache lines.
While on residency in Kogarah Bay in Sydney, I used the processes of drawing and observation as a way of reconnecting to the place I spent my early years and I also began an exploration into learning more about first nations people living in the area.
Murky water was drawn on Bidjigal country.
The brackish water where there were once mangroves and an abundance of food, is now a popular bayside swimming beach and public park. Remnant middens are evident all around this area where you can see the remains of many kinds of shellfish including oysters.
All along the stonewalls and rocks along the bay colonies of oysters are still thriving.
