Dörte Conroy
CHUTESPACE
Friday 21 February - Sunday 16 March
Opening Thursday 20 February 2025, 6pm - 8pm
In making the work for In. Plane. Site. in Gallery 3, one of the tools used was masking tape. Here we see the artist allowing the tape to flow off the ‘canvas’ and take on a life of its own.
About the Artist
Dörte Conroy lives and works in Canberra.
Her professional background is in graphic design and in 2004-2005 she attained a Master of Art (Visual Art) Sculpture, National Institute of the Arts (NITA), Australian National University, Canberra, ACT.
Conroy’s more than 20 years in the graphic design industry has been a strong and enduring influence on her career as a practicing visual artist. Conroy’s recent work, again, shows her design inspired interest. The hard-edge forms on a neutral ground are further illustrated by the application of strong colours.
Conroy has held and participated in many solo and group exhibitions in Canberra, Sydney and Hobart. Her 3D and photographic work is held at Artbank, Canberra Legislative Assembly as well as in many private collections.
About Chutespace
In November 2013 the former Griffith Library after-hours book-returns chute was transformed by Jeffree Skewes and Kerry Shepherdson, into a distinctive miniature exhibition space named CHUTESPACE.
CHUTESPACE is an artist run initiative and continues to be voluntarily curated and managed. Artists of all genres can apply for an exhibition.
Mini exhibitions are featured for four-week periods in line with the M16 main gallery exhibition periods.
All artist proposals are considered, and exhibitions are free to the artist.
