Gallery 1B

Friday 21 February - Sunday 16 March

Opening Thursday 20 February 2025, 6pm - 8pm

Inside Out, a solo exhibition by Manuel Pfeiffer, invites viewers into a contemplative journey that challenges perceptions of identity, memory and existentialism. Through a coherent body of two- and three-dimensional works, Pfeiffer visualises internal experiences – forms, feelings, dreams and visions – bringing them forth from the inside out to create a unique expression of what lies beneath the surface.

Each artwork is crafted through a slow, meditative process, contrasting with the rapid consumptive nature of modern social media, where images are often short-lived, fleeting, superficial.

By visualising these inner worlds from the inside out, Pfeiffer encourages viewers to look beyond the surface, questioning the perception of reality and the authenticity of what we see and experience.

In Inside Out, Pfeiffer invites us not only to witness but also to participate in a reflective space, where the boundaries between inner and outer worlds become blurred and dissolve - where the richness of personal introspection takes centre stage.

About the Artist

Manuel Pfeiffer is a Canberra-based artist whose work takes inspiration from the natural beauty and stories of the Australian landscape. Drawing inspiration from the coast, rolling hills and the vast outback, Manuel captures the essence of the environments that surround us. He is particularly drawn to the narratives inherent in nature - the stories told by a piece of wood, a tree or rock, a river’s flow, or the sculpted form of a dune.

Manuel’s creative practice spans two- and three-dimensional mediums. He works with acrylics, pencils, coloured pencils, and charcoal, alongside natural elements like wood, bark, leaves, rocks, coastal sand, and the red dust of the outback. These materials, often sourced directly from the landscapes he celebrates, bring an authenticity and tactile quality to his art.

Since 2010, Manuel has exhibited widely, presenting solo exhibitions almost annually. He is also a regular participant in group shows and collaborative exhibitions with his partner, fellow artist Eva van Gorsel.

Manuel’s artworks have found homes in private collections across Australia and internationally, striking a chord with audiences who appreciate his ability to convey the beauty and narratives of the natural world.
