โ€˜i burnt a hole in my pocket to fix myselfโ€™ is a group exhibition interrogating how the intangible elements of โ€˜wellnessโ€™ are monetised into goods and services. Humour, irony and earnest reflection are employed by each artist to subvert the commodification of mental health regimes and treatments, and how performative acts of wellness are transformed into profit-making initiatives. The exhibition explores the regulation of oneโ€™s mental and physical states to insert oneself into todayโ€™s prevailing market society as acts of self-care. We come to see these as coping mechanisms and radical diversions from existing in financially and politically precarious states.
