Annika Romeyn - Double Vision (Mt Gingera)
Annika Romeyn - Double Vision (Mt Gingera)
Pencil and watercolour monotype on paper, 168 x 76 cm.
‘Double Vision (Mt Gingera)’ was made in response to an October 2019 residency at Corin Dam in Namadgi National Park (Ngunnawal Country, ACT). The work began as a 3-panel watercolour monotype print depicting the detailed undergrowth that I encountered while walking the steep trail up Mt Gingera via Stockyard Spur in spring. As summer arrived the Orroral Valley fire burnt out of control, impacting a devastating 80% of Namadgi National Park. When the trail re-opened in winter I revisited the same site to see undergrowth gone and burnt trees lying winter snow. Over the faded purple ‘ghost print’ of my previous watercolour monotype, I used a carbon pencil to inscribe the charred and hollowed out trunk of a fallen eucalypt, filled with snow, marking the dramatic environmental changes that I witnessed over the course of a year.
