Toni Hassan / by Kirrily Jordan

Toni Hassan makes narratively-driven work, extending her career as a journalist, writer and equity advocate. Her social art practice is multidisciplinary from painting to conceptual installation and video. She sees her practice, first and foremost, as a democratic act. Toni explores the themes of personal and collective histories, identity, resistance and voice, liminality and the indivisible intersections between the sacred and secular. She is a recent graduate of the ANU School of Art and Design (with Honours gained in 2021), where she earned an emerging artist award and the Janet Wilkie Memorial Prize for Art History and Curatorship. Her work is held in private and public collections.
