Nicola Knackstredt / by Kirrily Jordan

Nicola Knackstredt has created jewellery for herself, her friends and her family from an early age. As an adult, Nicola discovered silversmithing, and stepped away from a career as a human rights lawyer to pursue her interest. She studied Gold & Silversmithing at the Australian National University in Canberra, where she was recognised for excellence in gold and silversmithing in her first year of studies. Nicola has since turned her interest into a business.

A big part of Nicola’s ethos is to be as environmentally and ethically conscious as the materials she uses will allow. This comes from her former life as a human rights lawyer where she worked on matters like supply chain transparency, business and human rights, and human rights and the environment. Nicola sources her metal from an Australian company recognised for their supply chain and environmental credentials. Nicola’s packaging is recycled and recyclable, and made in Australia by an Australian company.

Nicola loves to make beautiful, wearable art. Nicola crafts each piece of jewellery by hand in her studio at M16 Artspace; no two pieces are the same.
