Ali Aedy / by Kirrily Jordan

Ali Aedy, When the day is done, 2020. Tapa cloth, wire, paint, leather, and buckle, 80 x 12 x 160 cm.

Ali Aedy’s work explores the human condition. The laden psychological, emotional, and physical connections between the body and energy. The rituals of the everyday that anchor us in the here and now. The symbiotic relationships of within and without. The seeds of dreams and the growth of reality, from night to day from intention to action and from dark to light. Materiality is at the core of her practice and transcends the mundane into a sense of the sacred, reflecting personal experiences which are ultimately universal.Aedy graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in 1999 from the ANU and went onto complete both Honours (Visual Arts) in 2001 and a Doctorate of Philosophy in 2005 at the University of Tasmania’s, School of Visual and Performing Arts. Aedy completed a Diploma in Education in 2014 at the University of Canberra. Aedy was awarded a University of Tasmania Scholarship and has completed several Public Commissions in Tasmania. Aedy facilitates 1:1 Art sessions, as well as small group art sessions and exhibits her work regularly.
